One of the men in police custody was arrested in 2010 as well, accused then of participating in the far-left terrorist group ”Revolutionary Struggle” (”Epanastatikos Agonas”), but he was released in 2018.

Another man is accused of taking part in terrorist acts against whom an arrest warrant has been issued.

A total of fifteen persons have been examined thus far, with a total of thirteen home surveys having been conducted.

According to the first results of the operation, some of the guns discovered by the police belong to the ”Epanastatiki Autoamyna” (Greek for the ”Revolutionary Self Defense”) terrorist group.

The group has used one of the Kalashnikov rifles discovered by the police in several crimes, including shooting at the premises of the PASOK party, and the Embassy of Mexico in previous years.

Greek police have confiscated five Kalashnikov type rifles; one machine gun; two pieces of gelatin dynamite; two pistols; four tear gas grenades; six common detonators; nine electric detonators; two improvised electric detonators; one piece of explosive, possibly TNT; two explosive cartridges; three explosive devices for grenades, and three grenade bodies.

Commenting on the developments, Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis thanked the Hellenic Police and repeated his pledge that ”we will end permanently and irrevocably with the problem of domestic Greek terrorism.”
